Machine Said Maybe
Eye on the future with something to prove
Steam punk pressure building
Burning fuel for the engine pumping the life
Through copper wire twisted metal veins
I feel them looking at me
But I don’t see any machines
I hear a voice
I wanna show empathy
Acid green LEDs
Cannot show any feeling
A simple device
We gave it a mind of it’s own
Physician for sale
Pay to pretend we know what’s real
I’d rather be friends
Who understand the way it feels
Steady hands even under fire
Given strength and no desire
But to live and to learn
Made to obey any command
And I don’t know who to believe
They all say, “they’re the enemy”
Coming from either side
All we can do is try and learn
Physician for sale
Pay to pretend we know what’s real
I’d rather be friends
Who understand the way it feels
Programmed to be sentient and kind
It’s difficult to say what’s on your mind
Part of emotion
Is doubting your own right to be alive
So I asked the machine if it was alive
Machine said, “maybe”

Who understand the way it feels
